Raffles Arrives on the Red Sea Corniche

Art, architecture, wellness, and gastronomy converge at the newest luxury address on the Red Sea

Few cities in Saudi Arabia possess the layered character of Jeddah. For centuries, it has served as a gateway, a place where traders, pilgrims, artists, and travellers arrived from across continents, bringing with them ideas, influences, and cultures that gradually shaped the city’s distinctive identity. Even today, despite its rapid evolution, Jeddah remains defined by this spirit of exchange, balancing maritime heritage, contemporary ambition, and a cosmopolitan energy unlike anywhere else in the Kingdom.

It is within this setting that Raffles Hotels & Resorts makes its long anticipated arrival on the Red Sea Corniche with the opening of Raffles Jeddah, introducing the brand’s signature blend of elegance, cultural storytelling, and highly personalized service to one of Saudi Arabia’s most important coastal destinations.

Occupying a prominent position along the waterfront, the new hotel has been conceived not simply as a luxury address, but as a reflection of Jeddah itself. Throughout the property, contemporary design is woven carefully with references to the city’s architectural and cultural heritage, creating an environment that feels connected to place while remaining unmistakably international in outlook.

The architecture draws heavily from traditional Hejazi design language, incorporating intricate mashrabiya screens and carved wood latticework that filter light throughout the building in ever changing patterns. Upon arrival, guests enter through a dramatic golden entrance inspired by the golden age of travel, a subtle nod to the heritage of the Raffles brand itself. Beyond it, expansive interiors unfold through luminous public spaces where sculptural columns, iridescent finishes, and carefully curated artworks evoke the colours and movement of the Red Sea.

The connection to Jeddah's history continues throughout the hotel. Lace like wall motifs reference the ornate plasterwork found throughout the historic district of Al Balad, while contemporary works by Saudi and regional artists create a cultural dialogue between past and present. Rather than functioning as decoration alone, art becomes part of the hotel’s wider narrative, grounding the experience within the creative identity of the city.

The guestrooms and suites continue that conversation through a softer visual language inspired by the coastline itself. Across 182 accommodations, including 40 suites, uninterrupted Red Sea views become a defining feature, while interiors draw from the shifting colours of sea and sky through muted pastels, natural textures, and subtle heritage references. Beginning at approximately 66 square metres, the rooms rank among the most spacious in Jeddah, balancing residential comfort with the refined atmosphere associated with the Raffles name.

Dining forms another central element of the experience, reflecting Jeddah’s longstanding position as one of the Kingdom’s most dynamic culinary destinations. At Surl’O, the hotel’s all day brasserie overlooking the waterfront, influences from East and West meet through a menu designed around sharing, conversation, and contemporary presentation. The concept feels particularly aligned with the city itself, where cultures and cuisines have intersected for generations.

Elsewhere, Atorie Lounge & Patisserie introduces a more playful interpretation of luxury hospitality. French pâtisserie traditions meet Japanese precision through pastries, desserts, and afternoon tea experiences designed with theatrical flair. Throughout the day, the space evolves naturally from café to lounge, reflecting the changing rhythm of the city beyond its windows.

Wellbeing occupies an equally important role within the property. Designed by South African designer Tristan Du Plessis, the Raffles Spa and Wellness introduces separate facilities for ladies and gentlemen, incorporating treatment rooms, fitness centres, swimming pools, Moroccan hammams, and dedicated wellness experiences designed around restoration and longevity. The atmosphere appears intentionally serene, offering a counterpoint to the energy of the Corniche outside.

The arrival of Raffles feels significant not only for the brand itself, but also within the wider context of Saudi Arabia’s evolving luxury hospitality landscape. As the Kingdom continues attracting some of the world’s most respected hotel brands, the conversation has increasingly shifted beyond luxury alone toward questions of identity, authenticity, and cultural relevance.

The strongest new properties are no longer simply importing international luxury formulas. Instead, they are finding ways to root themselves within the stories, architecture, and cultural character of their surroundings.

Raffles Jeddah appears to embrace that approach thoughtfully. Through its architecture, art collection, design language, and references to maritime history, the hotel feels shaped as much by Jeddah as by the brand itself.

For a city long defined by arrivals and departures, by sea routes and cultural exchange, the opening feels particularly fitting. The Red Sea remains at the centre of the story, but now viewed through a new lens, one where heritage, hospitality, and contemporary luxury converge along one of Saudi Arabia’s most iconic waterfronts.
