  • Contemporary Heritage at EDITION Red Sea

Where Saudi heritage meets light, movement, and modern design by Abdulrahman Abed This festive season, The Red Sea EDITION introduces a cultural moment that feels both grounded and quietly transformative. Unveiled in the heart of the resort’s main lobby, a newly commissioned installation by Saudi designer Abdulrahman Al-Abed of Qormuz brings contemporary Saudi creativity into direct conversation with EDITION’s refined architectural language. Titled Pulse of the Duff , the installation reimagines one of the region’s most enduring symbols through light, form, and movement. Rising three meters high, the sculptural work is composed of layered duffs that respond to human presence. As guests move through the space, tones shift and light pulses gently, translating rhythm into something visible and felt. What was once purely sonic becomes spatial, turning the act of gathering into an immersive experience. The duff, long associated with celebration, ritual, and collective memory, is not treated here as an instrument but as a contemporary cultural presence. Light and motion replace sound, inviting guests to engage intuitively rather than observe from a distance. The installation recalls the earliest forms of communal gathering, where warmth, rhythm, and proximity shaped shared experience, while presenting them through a modern, design led lens. Al Abed’s creative language is deeply rooted in Najdi architecture, traditional craft, and modern Saudi identity. Those influences are evident in the installation’s geometric foundation and disciplined structure, which feel both architectural and human. The play of light across its surface mirrors the rhythm of movement within the space, echoing the balance and quiet sophistication that define The Red Sea EDITION itself. Placed within the resort’s main lobby, Pulse of the Duff  becomes part of the daily journey rather than a standalone moment. Guests encounter it naturally, whether arriving, passing through, or lingering. Its presence adds depth to the resort’s modern aesthetic, offering an encounter with Saudi creativity that feels integrated rather than staged. Unveiled as part of the resort’s festive programming, the installation will remain a permanent feature at The Red Sea EDITION. Its lasting presence reflects the brand’s belief that art should be an essential part of the guest experience, not an accessory to it. Here, contemporary design, local heritage, and hospitality converge in a way that feels considered and sincere. Set against the resort’s serene beachfront setting, Pulse of the Duff  offers a moment of cultural connection that complements EDITION’s intuitive service and understated atmosphere. It stands as a reminder that modern luxury in Saudi Arabia is increasingly defined not only by place, but by story, identity, and thoughtful creative expression. • Where Korean Culture Meets Modern Abu Dhabi

A new chapter in experiential dining at Al Maryah Island Long before the first reservation is confirmed or the dining room comes to life, Hanbok announces itself as a feeling. A sense of grace carried through fabric, light, and memory. Opening soon at The Galleria Al Maryah Island, this contemporary Korean dining destination arrives in Abu Dhabi with a quiet confidence, offering not just a restaurant, but a cultural experience shaped by centuries of tradition and refined for the present moment. Named after Korea’s iconic traditional attire, Hanbok draws from a rich visual and emotional language. The hanbok itself is a study in movement and restraint, softness and structure, femininity and form. At Hanbok Abu Dhabi, this symbolism becomes the foundation of the entire experience. Not as reference alone, but as philosophy. Every detail, from architecture to cuisine, reflects a reverence for heritage translated through a modern lens. Designed by DBM Studio, the interiors feel sculptural yet weightless. Vertical layers of fabric float through the space, gently echoing the sway of a hanbok skirt in motion. Light moves across these suspended forms with intention, creating a room that feels alive, almost breathing. The effect is immersive and cinematic, closer to walking through a couture installation than entering a traditional dining room. The vision comes from Yoann Grillet, Founder and CEO of Fuse Holding, who imagined Hanbok as a place where past and present exist in harmony. “Hanbok was imagined as a sanctuary where the past and present meet in quiet conversation,” he shares. “A place where heritage doesn’t merely decorate the room but breathes through every detail. We want guests to feel embraced, to experience Korean culture in a way that is poetic, sincere, and deeply human.” That sense of sincerity carries into the menu. Korean cuisine, known for its boldness and emotional depth, is approached with refinement and precision. Flavours are layered, thoughtful, and expressive, balancing intensity with softness. Each dish reflects a dialogue between memory and innovation, where traditional techniques meet contemporary execution. It is a culinary language that respects its roots while speaking fluently to a global audience. The spatial journey through Hanbok unfolds with intention. Guests move from a sculpted bar into a softly lit corridor, then toward an open kitchen where craft becomes choreography. The dining room itself is crowned by a dramatic floral chandelier and cascading textile installations, blurring the line between art, fashion, and hospitality. It is a space designed not to overwhelm, but to resonate. Hanbok joins Fuse Holding’s growing portfolio of experiential dining concepts, which includes Kiyoshi in Dubai and the forthcoming Isabel Mayfair Abu Dhabi. Yet this project feels particularly personal. A tribute to Korean culture, an exploration of elegance, and an invitation to slow down and engage with beauty in its most considered form. As Abu Dhabi continues to define itself as a global capital for culture and creativity, Hanbok arrives as a natural addition to that narrative. Refined, atmospheric, and deeply rooted in story, it stands poised to become a new landmark within the city’s dining landscape. Hanbok will open its doors soon. Its story, however, has already begun. Written in silk and light, flavour and form, it is an experience shaped by heritage and designed for the present. For updates, follow @hanbokabudhabi or visit hanbokrestaurants.com .

  • Time Well Spent With Breitling

Breitling introduces its first Middle East kitchen in Riyadh Breitling has long understood that time is best experienced, not just measured. With the opening of Breitling Kitchen in Riyadh, the Swiss watchmaker introduces a new chapter in how the brand connects with its community, bringing together horology, hospitality, and everyday social ritual under one roof. Located within the expanded Breitling Boutique at Panorama Mall, the new Breitling Kitchen marks the first of its kind in the Middle East and one of only three globally. It sits alongside sister spaces in Geneva and Seoul, positioning Riyadh firmly within a select international circle where retail evolves into lifestyle. The space itself feels immediately familiar to anyone who knows Breitling’s industrial loft aesthetic. Exposed brick walls, open sightlines, and relaxed banquette seating create an atmosphere that is welcoming rather than formal. A coffee bar anchors the room, setting the tone for a place designed to be lived in rather than passed through. It is not a restaurant attached to a boutique, but a continuation of the brand’s philosophy of casual luxury and approachability. For Breitling, this opening is part of a broader shift in how the brand engages its audience globally. As Aed Adwan, Managing Director of Breitling Middle East, shared at the opening, the concept reflects a deliberate move toward creating spaces that feel inclusive and social. He noted that Breitling has been redefining the boutique experience worldwide by turning retail locations into lifestyle destinations, and expressed pride in bringing this concept to Saudi Arabia for the first time. At the heart of Breitling Kitchen Riyadh is the culinary direction of Chef Khaled Alhussaini. Drawing from his Saudi roots, the menu balances international comfort with subtle local influence. Guests can move seamlessly from breakfast meetings to long lunches or relaxed dinners, all within the rhythm of the boutique’s opening hours. The result is a space that feels flexible and relevant to daily life, whether visitors arrive as watch collectors, coffee regulars, or curious first timers. The partnership behind the project carries equal significance. Sheikh Mohammed Al Hussaini, CEO of Al Hussaini Trading Co., emphasized that the Kitchen represents more than a dining concept. As Breitling’s long standing retail partner in Saudi Arabia, he described the opening as a reflection of shared values around innovation, lifestyle, and exceptional customer experience. The space is designed to bring people together, reinforcing Breitling’s role not only as a watchmaker, but as a cultural presence within the city. Riyadh is a natural home for this concept. As the city’s retail and social landscapes continue to evolve, brands are increasingly expected to offer more than products. Experiences matter, and places where people can gather without agenda are becoming central to modern luxury. Breitling Kitchen answers that need with ease. It invites guests to slow down, sit longer, and engage with the brand in a way that feels organic rather than transactional. The opening also reflects Breitling’s broader heritage. Founded in 1884, the Swiss watchmaker built its reputation on precision instruments for air, land, and sea, pioneering the modern chronograph and navigational tool watches. Today, the brand balances that technical legacy with a contemporary sensibility, operating more than 270 industrial loft inspired retail locations worldwide. Each space reinforces Breitling’s commitment to inclusive luxury, sustainability, and craftsmanship, values that now extend naturally into hospitality. Breitling Kitchen Riyadh stands as a clear expression of where luxury retail is heading. It is about connection, comfort, and community, without losing sight of craftsmanship or identity. In bringing this concept to Saudi Arabia, Breitling acknowledges the sophistication of its local audience and the city’s growing role in shaping global luxury culture. In a city defined by momentum, the Breitling Kitchen offers something quietly rare. A place to pause, gather, and enjoy time well spent.

  • The Art of Alyasat

A living celebration of the Gulf’s maritime heritage Photos courtesy of the Abu Dhabi Media Center Along the Abu Dhabi Corniche, where the city opens gently toward the sea, the Alyasat Festival unfolds as one of the UAE’s most meaningful cultural gatherings. It is not a spectacle built for speed or novelty, but a celebration rooted in memory, craftsmanship, and the enduring relationship between the Emirates and the water that shaped its earliest communities. Alyasat is dedicated to traditional sailing vessels, the wooden dhows that once carried pearl divers, fishermen, and traders across the Gulf. For generations, these boats were not symbols. They were lifelines. They carried livelihoods, sustained families, and connected coastal towns long before modern infrastructure transformed the region. The festival honors that history with reverence, inviting both locals and visitors to witness the elegance and discipline of maritime heritage up close. At the heart of the festival are the sailing competitions, where heritage vessels glide across the water with quiet power. Crews work in practiced harmony, guided by techniques passed down through generations. Watching these boats move is a reminder that tradition here is not static. It is active, physical, and deeply respected. The races are less about victory and more about continuity, preserving knowledge that might otherwise fade in a world increasingly defined by technology. On land, the festival opens into a broader cultural experience. Boat-building demonstrations highlight the artistry behind each vessel, from the selection of wood to the precise shaping of the hull. Craftsmen speak of balance, patience, and intuition, values that mirror the wider Emirati approach to heritage preservation. Nearby, exhibitions and cultural displays explore maritime life through storytelling, photography, and archival material, offering context to the traditions being celebrated on the water. Family plays a central role at Alyasat. Children gather along the shoreline, learning the names of boats and sails, asking questions, and absorbing stories that anchor them to their past. Elders watch with pride, recognizing fragments of their own youth in the movement of the vessels and the rituals surrounding them. This intergenerational exchange is what gives the festival its emotional weight. It is not about reenactment. It is about living memory. The setting itself adds to the atmosphere. Abu Dhabi’s skyline rises in the distance, modern and assured, while the traditional boats cut across the sea in the foreground. The contrast is striking but harmonious. It reflects the broader narrative of the Emirates, a nation that has embraced global ambition without severing its connection to its origins. Alyasat Festival also speaks to the UAE’s commitment to safeguarding intangible heritage. By elevating maritime traditions to a national stage, the festival ensures they remain visible, valued, and relevant. It reminds audiences that progress does not require forgetting, and that cultural identity is strongest when it is actively practiced rather than archived. As the sun sets and the boats return to shore, there is a sense of calm that settles over the festival. It feels earned. Alyasat does not rush its message. It allows history to speak through motion, craft, and collective presence. In a region often defined by rapid transformation, Alyasat Festival stands as a quiet anchor. It honors the sea, the people who depended on it, and the traditions that continue to shape Emirati identity today.

  • MARLI New York Arrives at Solitaire

A New Expression of Modern Luxury in Riyadh Riyadh’s appetite for contemporary fine jewelry has found a new home. MARLI New York opened its boutique at Solitaire Mall with a celebration that felt as thoughtfully crafted as the pieces on display. The evening brought together influential guests, leading media, and friends of the brand for a moment that reflected the harmony between New York audacity and the city’s growing cultural refinement. Guests stepped into a space shaped by fluid forms, textured contrasts and sharply considered lines. The boutique’s interior design echoed MARLI’s aesthetic vocabulary. It felt sculptural and soft at the same time. The atmosphere carried the quiet confidence of a brand that knows exactly who it is and who it speaks to. The ribbon cutting set the tone. Maral Artinian, Founder and Creative Director, welcomed guests with grace and warmth. She stood beside Nadine Njeim, acclaimed Lebanese actress and the newly appointed brand ambassador for the Middle East. Nadine’s presence perfectly mirrored MARLI’s visual language. Elegant, poised and expressive, she embodied the clarity and modernity that define the house. Maral paused for a moment of reflection, sharing what it meant to inaugurate the boutique at Solitaire Mall. “This address is where New York’s creative spirit meets Riyadh’s living pulse. It is a space designed to welcome the community, where design is felt, identity is honoured, and self expression is celebrated, making every visit a moment of discovery.” Her words captured the brand’s entire philosophy. Jewelry for MARLI is not an accessory. It is a form of personal storytelling. Inside, guests explored the signature collections. Cleo, Tip Top, LIFE and Empire revealed themselves through the brilliance of eighteen karat gold and the kind of meticulous stone setting that only a heritage of craftsmanship can create. The pavé and full pavé diamonds felt alive under the boutique lighting. The hand selected gemstones shifted with the movement of each person browsing the cases. Precision and fluidity met in every curve of metal, giving MARLI a voice that is instantly recognizable. What distinguished the opening was how naturally MARLI translated its New York roots into a Riyadh setting. Nothing felt imposed. The boutique’s teal accents, the architectural rhythm of the room, and the understated elegance of the displays worked together to create an environment that felt immersive and intentional. It invited guests to explore at their own pace, to try, to observe, and to connect. With its arrival at Solitaire, MARLI brings more than a new retail address. It introduces a viewpoint shaped by three generations of Artinian family expertise and guided by Maral’s belief in liberated self expression. Her global upbringing and life in New York continue to inform the brand’s creative direction, but Riyadh gives it a new stage. There is something compelling about seeing a house built on movement, contrast and individuality find resonance with the region’s evolving style landscape. The opening marks a milestone for MARLI in the Gulf. As Riyadh continues its transformation into a regional hub for culture, fashion and design, brands with a strong identity are becoming part of the city’s narrative. MARLI enters that story with clarity. It brings craftsmanship rooted in heritage, a modern point of view shaped by Manhattan energy, and a design language built around balance and intention. The boutique is now open at Solitaire Mall. For Riyadh’s jewelry lovers, it offers a space where artistry and emotion meet, where every piece carries the confidence of a brand that knows how to create beauty that feels both personal and current. MARLI arrives not as a quiet addition, but as a meaningful part of the city’s ongoing creative rise.

  • Zayed National Museum Opens in Abu Dhabi

A New Cultural Landmark for the Emirates Abu Dhabi welcomed a new chapter in its cultural story with the opening of the Zayed National Museum, a landmark that carries the spirit, vision and humanity of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan into the future. Rising from Saadiyat Island, the museum stands as both an architectural statement and a tribute to the founding father of the UAE. It is a place built to educate, inspire and connect, tying together the values that shaped the country with the possibilities of tomorrow. The museum sits at the heart of the Saadiyat Cultural District, surrounded by a constellation of global institutions. Its arrival affirms the Emirates’ commitment to becoming a destination where history, knowledge and creative expression coexist. The design itself reflects this message. The structure, inspired by the wings of a falcon, creates a sense of movement and grace, while grounding its presence firmly in the region’s heritage. It is a building that feels distinctly Emirati yet entirely global. Inside, the story unfolds with clarity and care. The galleries trace Sheikh Zayed’s remarkable life and the values he championed. Sustainability, unity, environmental stewardship, education and cultural dialogue are not presented as abstract concepts, but as lived principles that shaped the foundations of the nation. Archive footage, personal objects, historic photographs and oral histories create a narrative that feels intimate and deeply human. Visitors encounter a leader who was driven by compassion and a profound respect for people and place. Beyond the biographical journey, the museum offers a broader perspective on the region. It explores the natural environment of the Arabian Peninsula, the archaeological record of the land, and the ongoing story of the Emirates as a crossroads of culture and trade. Each gallery is designed to create conversations between past and present. The displays reveal how the country evolved from a landscape defined by desert and sea into a modern state with global influence. The opening night gathered cultural leaders, historians, artists and invited guests from across the region. The atmosphere carried a quiet sense of pride as visitors moved through the expansive halls for the first time. Many paused at the personal letters and early photographs of Sheikh Zayed, where the story of the nation feels closest and most sincere. Others gravitated toward the immersive galleries that explore ecological preservation, a subject that Sheikh Zayed championed long before it became an international concern. The museum is not only a celebration of his legacy. It is a reminder of the values that continue to shape the Emirates today. The focus on learning, cultural exchange and long term stewardship mirrors the direction of Abu Dhabi’s wider cultural agenda. With the opening of this institution, Saadiyat Island has taken another step toward becoming one of the most important cultural districts in the world. For visitors, the experience is both educational and emotional. It invites them to understand the UAE through the perspective of the man who imagined its future and guided its formation. For the region, it offers a place where identity and memory are preserved with respect and vision. And for the world, it presents an open invitation to learn more about the history, culture and ambitions of the Emirates. The Zayed National Museum is more than a new landmark. It is a gift to the next generation, an institution built to carry forward the story of a leader who believed deeply in unity, curiosity and progress. Abu Dhabi now has a space that reflects those ideals with beauty and purpose, and its opening marks one of the most significant cultural moments the capital has seen in recent years.

  • Cassette Dubai: Where Food, Art and Ease Meet

Dubai’s calm corner for good food and good mood Tucked inside the leafy calm of The Courtyard in Al Quoz in Dubai, a café-bistro opened in 2019 as a creative hub for food, coffee, design and music. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t try too hard to impress. It simply does, by offering a warm welcome, thoughtful food and an atmosphere that settles you as soon as you walk in. A Setting That Feels Like Home, Only Better Cassette's charm begins with its surroundings. The Courtyard, despite being in an industrial-meets-creative part of Dubai, feels like a leafy enclave. Indoor seating spills into a relaxed courtyard, blending greenery, natural light and soft music, the vibe is casual yet considered. Whether you arrive early for breakfast or linger into the afternoon for coffee, Cassette offers a peaceful haven. There’s a gentle buzz around, a mixture of regulars and newcomers, families and friends and a diverse crowd drawn by the comfort inherent in its design and energy. Morning Rituals That Delight We visited Cassette for breakfast and left genuinely impressed. The menu unfolds with tempting simplicity: dishes like the “Big Cassette Breakfast” offering eggs, mushrooms, beef bacon, sausage, potatoes, beans and toast, generous and well built. For something lighter, the “Super Green Omelette” with spinach, zucchini, cherry tomatoes and avocado on sourdough toast felt fresh and balanced. Coffee arrives with precision; juices and fresh-brewed drinks provide a nice counterpoint to heavier breakfast plates. What stood out was not only the taste, but the care: flavors felt genuine, dishes well-portioned and elements balanced so each bite felt considered. The kind of breakfast that leaves you satisfied, not stuffed; content, but still ready for the day. A Menu That Grows With You Cassette’s culinary philosophy is described as “Modern Parisian Direction.” That means there are hints of French familiarity but with an international openness. Vegans and vegetarians find plenty to choose from, and even casual comfort-food lovers are happy. From salads to sandwiches, burgers to quinoa bowls, there’s a clear effort to cater to varying tastes and dietary preferences. Lighter lunch options sit comfortably beside more indulgent dishes. It’s easy to see Cassette as a place for a quick coffee break, a long brunch with friends, a relaxed lunch meeting, or even a cozy spot to work over a laptop. The balance between style, accessibility and substance is deliberate. Why Cassette Matters In a city overflowing with “hotspots,” Cassette doesn’t strive for flash. Instead, it thrives quietly on authenticity. It represents a thread in Dubai's tapestry that values community over glitz, comfort over spectacle, and understated design over over-the-top flair. For anyone, whether a visitor or a regular, looking for a moment of calm, good food, and a sense of ease, Cassette offers exactly that. It’s a café where you can belong without belonging to anything pretentious. What to Know Before You Go Cassette opens daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The Courtyard location gives easy access to parking (though public and paid), and plenty of indoor and courtyard seating. The vibe is relaxed and family-friendly. The menu caters to a variety of dietary preferences from hearty breakfasts to vegan dishes making it a versatile choice for groups with differing tastes. Cassette is a creative getaway within Dubai, a place where good food, thoughtful design and casual comfort meet. • Amouage x Alula

A Journey of Shared Heritage and Scented Memory By Dani O'Connor, Editor in Chief All photos by Benjamin de Fracia There are moments when a journey feels less like travel and more like a return to something familiar. Our recent media trip with Amouage to AlUla carried that feeling from the moment we arrived. The Omani fragrance house has long been known for its deep sense of identity. Its connection to heritage has always been more than a theme. It is a way of seeing the world. This made AlUla the perfect setting for their newest cultural chapter amongst VIPs, dignitaries, and top tier media. All photos by Benjamin de Fracia Amouage arrived in AlUla to celebrate something meaningful. The brand joined the Royal Commission for AlUla as the fragrance sponsor of the Incense Road Experience, a multisensory installation that honors the ancient trade routes linking Arabia to the wider world. The story of the Incense Road is also the story of Oman and Saudi Arabia, two lands shaped by the movement of caravans, culture and perfume. Frankincense from Dhofar. Myrrh from the southern deserts. Aromatics that once traveled through AlUla before finding their way across continents. Amouage carries these stories in every creation. Seeing the house return to this landscape felt profound. All photos by Benjamin de Fracia The visit began with a private tour of the Incense Road Experience, accompanied by the leadership of Amouage. The Chairman, Sayyid Khalid bin Hamad Al Busaidi, spoke with a sense of calm authority that reflects the house’s long standing reputation. The Chief Executive Officer, Marco Parsiegla, shared reflections on cultural partnership and the responsibility that comes with representing the region’s heritage on a global stage. Creative Director Renaud Salmon brought a quiet curiosity to each space, pausing at details that others might miss. Together they represented three perspectives that define Amouage: legacy, leadership and imagination. All photos by Benjamin de Fracia Walking through the installation felt like moving through time. Light, sound and scent carried us across centuries. The desert became a living archive of the trade networks that once shaped Arabia. Every fragrance note in the air held a memory of something older than the moment itself. There was a feeling of reverence, as if the landscape invited visitors to listen first before interpreting anything at all. The signing ceremony between Amouage and the Royal Commission for AlUla took place shortly after. The agreement formalized a partnership built on authenticity and shared cultural values. It was an acknowledgment that fragrance is not merely an accessory. It is a storyteller. In AlUla, it becomes a bridge between Oman and Saudi Arabia, two cultures connected by scent, movement and history. All photos by Benjamin de Fracia As evening arrived, the desert shifted into something intimate and beautiful. Amouage hosted an exclusive dinner at The Chedi Hegra where candlelight reflected off sandstone walls that have stood for thousands of years. The atmosphere was serene. Music floated in the air with the softness of a whispered memory. Every course carried the influence of AlUla’s natural landscape, turning the meal into a continuation of the day’s narrative. Later, guests gathered for a concert staged in front of Hegra. The monument stood illuminated, its quiet presence towering above the crowd. The performance marked the opening of the Ancient Kingdoms Festival of AlUla, a celebration that honors the region’s cultural legacy. The combination of music, history and desert air created a moment that felt suspended in time. It was impossible not to reflect on how deeply fragrance is tied to place. Standing beneath the stars, surrounded by the powerful stillness of Hegra, the collaboration between Amouage and AlUla found its fullest expression. All photos by Benjamin de Fracia This media trip revealed something essential about Amouage. The house understands that luxury is at its most meaningful when it carries memory, purpose and connection. Its story is rooted in Oman, yet it speaks naturally to the landscape of Saudi Arabia. Both places share an ancient history shaped by perfume. Both hold traditions that continue to influence contemporary creativity. And both are stepping into a future defined by cultural ambition and global visibility. All photos by Benjamin de Fracia In AlUla, Amouage honored the past while creating something new. The partnership felt less like an announcement and more like a continuation of a long and scented conversation between two cultures. It is a reminder that heritage is not static. It is alive and always becoming something more.
